2020 Golf Classic

MBAA and MBAF would like to thank our sponsors, supporters, and golfers for making this year's golf outing a success.  We did not let COVID dampen our spirits and we continued our tradition of awarding cash and training scholarships to our next generation of business aviation professionals.  The weather was great, the Hawk Hollow staff was excellent to work with, and our supporters donated their time and money to make the day special.  It was great seeing everyone and we're excited to begin planning for our 2021 events!  Please click below to learn more about our 2020 scholarship winners.

Golf Outings

Beginning in 2019, MBAA transitioned our golf outing to fall under the umbrella of the Michigan Business Aviation Foundation (formally WMBAA).  MBAF held two golf outings with the the first held in June at Thorn Apple Point in Grand Rapids and the second occurring in early September at Lyon Oaks in Wixom.  We join MBAF in thanking all of our generous sponsors and were thrilled to have two sold-out events.

Legislative Breakfast and Annual Meeting

Held at the GCSI offices in Lansing, we were honored to welcome a number of State Representatives and Senators to discuss business aviation in Michigan and how we can partner with our elected officials to ensure future funding and infrastructure needs are met.

2018 Events

2018 Annual Meeting and Legislative Day

On Wednesday, March 14, the Michigan Business Aviation Association held our Annual Meeting and Legislative Luncheon. The event was a great success with over 90 in attendance including MBAA and MAAE members, friends of aviation and legislators joining us!

We were also joined by several guests, including Senator Jim Marleau who spoke about Senate Bills 626 and 627, legislation he introduced regarding the regulation of seaplanes. Our second speaker of the day was Mike Trout, Director of the MDOT Office of Aeronautics, who explained to the group the efficiency and effectiveness of MDOT owned aircraft. Lt. Governor Brian Calley was also able to join us. He discussed jobs, road funding and how to help Michigan succeed.

A special thank you to Christa Lucas, Vice President of Government Affairs, NBAA, for her comments, time, and work with NBAA on behalf of local and regional groups.  MBAA is fortunate to have such a strong partnership on the National level.

After Christa finished, Bob Quinn, Central Region Representative, NBAA, shared a few words with the group, stating that there is not another organization that focuses on advocacy the way MBAA does, and that we have truly developed a pathway.

Representative Wayne Schmidt also attended the meeting and presented Rich Belisle with the House Resolution 270 of 2018, declaring March 12-18, 2018 Aviation Week in the state of Michigan.

Steve Young, MBAA Lobbyist, GCSI, was our last speaker of the day. He encouraged members to continue to push for our bills, House Bills 4350 and 4351, and to remind their Senators to vote in support of the bills.

Thank you to our many speakers, as well as our sponsors, MAAE and Executive Jet Management, for the great lunch.

Safety Training Event
Special thanks to event sponsors EJM and USAIG.  The event began with life raft training presented by Aerospace Services & Products, Inc.  Paul Ratte was the session keynote and presented "There Are No Simple Mistakes in Aviation" where he examined human factors-based errors through three different lenses: the individual, the team and the system.

Lunch followed and was provided by Executive Jet Management.

We would also like to thank our hosts, the West Michigan Aviation Academy.

Golf Outing

Thanks to all who attended and sponsored MBAA's annual golf event!

WMU Outlook Event

MBAA thanks WMU and Bombardier for a great event.  It would not have been possible without the efforts of students and staff at WMU or the sponsorship and support of Bombardier.  It was great having the Lear 75 onsite and even better was the strong attendance and student participation.  We look forward to next year.
Thank you Bombardier

Legislative Day

The 2016 Legislative Day marked another successful event in which members had the opportunity to communicate directly with the State's Senators and Representatives regarding the importance of Michigan Business Aviation.  The event was held at the State Capitol and was attended by over 60 legislators and guest speaker Christa Fornarotto, VP Government Affairs NBAA.

Air Transportation Expo
Oakland County International Airport (OCIA) represents a number of “firsts” including the first airport to be certified by the federal government (certificate 000001 in 1930). On September 25, 2015 another first was etched in the record books. OCIA and Michigan Business Aviation Association (MBAA) hosted the first Air Transportation Expo and welcomed over 400 attendees and exhibitors. Over thirty exhibitors shared their unique services and expertise to those in attendance and highlighted the key attributes of business aviation in Michigan. The educational sessions covered an introduction to business aviation, flight operations best practices, aircraft transactions and an FAA medical certification overview. The static aircraft display included Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) Bombardier Business Aircraft, Dassault Falcon Jet and Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation.

Dave Vanderveen welcomed special guests and speakers including Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Pentastar Aviation owner Edsel B. Ford II, MBAA Chairman John Hatfield and MDOT’s Mike Trout.

Governor Snyder proclaimed September as Aviation Month and recognized the significant economic impact to Michigan’s economy. The Air Transportation Expo showcased the advantages and opportunities business aviation provides throughout Michigan contributing over $20 billion annually.

OCAI and MBAA gratefully acknowledge the sponsors, volunteers and attendees for making this event a success. A full list of sponsors as well as the day’s agenda may be reviewed at www.MBAA.org
